Personal Statement

Dr. Arafat Hashwani strives to provide the highest quality personal care. He believes in working together with his patients to develop an individualized treatment plan based on evidence-based medicine. He makes himself available to his patients and takes the time to listen to their concerns, wishes and goals. Dr. Hashwani’s patient philosophy is to treat each patient as he would like to be treated.

Dr. Hashwani is the founder and President of Hashwani Neurology & Neurophysiology Clinic (HNNC). After graduating with Honors in Chemical Engineering with Senior Honors Thesis at the University of Houston, he earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine. During his medical school, he was mentored by Dr. John De Toledo—a nationally recognized Epileptologist. Dr. Hashwani completed his internship in Internal Medicine and Neurology Residency at the University of Texas at Galveston (UTMB), followed by Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship (specializing in EEG and EMG/NCS) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Dr. Hashwani is a board certified Neurologist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), and has fellowship training in procedures including EEG, Nerve Conduction Studies, and EMG. He is also trained in programming Vagal Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).

Dr. Hashwani’s clinical interests include treatment and management of conditions such as seizures, epilepsy, migraines, headaches, neuromuscular disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, strokes, neuropathy, tremors, neck pain, back pain, memory problems, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease/movement disorders, radiculopathy, myopathy, dizziness, vertigo, and syncope. Having completed his fellowship training in the largest medical center in the world, Dr. Hashwani had the opportunity to treat common neurological disorders, as well as, rare neurological disease processes.

He believes in tailoring individualized care to each patient’s needs and having a personal touch. He is a compassionate Neurologist who spends time with his patients and provides a high standard of care. He makes himself easily accessible to the patients and their families. Growing up, he was involved with many community projects and events, and he continues to be passionate about serving the community, doing volunteer work, and teaching.

Dr. Hashwani has given numerous presentations and lectures to medical students, residents as well as fellows. He has been a recipient of many teaching awards and honors such as The Thayer Award for Excellence in Teaching, The Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTH) Fellowship Teacher of the Year, and The University of Texas at Galveston (UTMB) Resident Teacher of the Year.
Currently, Dr. Hashwani serves as one of The Harris County Medical Society (HCMS) Southwest Branch Young Physician Ambassador. He is a faculty member for Beckers Professional Education teaching Neuroanatomy and Neurology for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) board preparation to the medical students nationally and internationally. He is involved as a Neurology faculty in teaching the Family Medicine resident physicians from the Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Residency program in Sugar Land. He has also been a presenter at grand round presentations, national meetings, and his work has been published in the field of Neurology.
