Philip Blum, MD, PA graduated summa cum laude from Johns Hopkins University in 1982 and Baylor College of Medicine in 1986. He completed his Neurology specialty training at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Blum spent 6 months of his neurology residency training specifically in the technique of electromyography and nerve conduction studies. Post-residency, he did additional fellowship training in neuroimaging of the central nervous system (MRI, MRA, CT).

During and after undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr. Blum has remained involved in immunology, neurology, and neuromuscular specialty research studies and his subspecialty interests remain focused on neurological diseases of immunologic origin including those of the central and peripheral nervous system. He performs expert electromyography and nerve conduction studies and imaging review to complement his clinical practice.

Patients are frequently referred to Dr. Blum for consultation and treatment of uncommon neurological disorders within his specialty interests of immunology and neuromuscular disease including multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathy, CIDP and other inflammatory nerve diseases, myositis, myasthenia gravis, and entrapment neuropathy such as carpal tunnel syndrome. He also treats general neurological illnesses including dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders, and headache.

Since training, Dr. Blum has practiced exclusively in the Southeast Houston region with offices in Pasadena and Pearland. A unique training and perspective in immunology has allowed Dr. Blum to develop infusion services available on site at the HNI offices and offer treatment of immune related neurological disease in a comfortable friendly atmosphere under his immediate observation.

Dr. Blum strongly endorses ethical principles of medicine and actively practices patient and family centered care. Tests, treatments, and the overall goals of care are carefully planned in partnership with the patient and family. Dr. Blum is also active in the local health community. He has served on and chaired hospital committees on quality improvement, ethics, and information technologies. Most recently, Dr. Blum completed a term on the Patients Medical Center Governing Board as that hospital grew from a startup to the most patient centered acute care facility in the region as rated by HCAPS, a standardized measure of patient satisfaction.
